Girls Rise Up gets ready to launch Powered By Girls thanks to support from the National Lottery Community Fund

We are really excited to announce that we are now able to launch our new Powered By Girls programme thanks to the renewed support of the National Lottery Community Fund. Last year we were able to support 4 girl led community projects across London focusing on issues that mattered to our girls. These projects provided essential services during the start of the Covid pandemic including providing food packages to households in South London and Mental Health & Wellbeing workshops for families. To learn more about some of the Community Projects we have supported please visit our Girl Led Projects page to see some of the amazing work our girls have led.

Our new Powered By Girls programme will enable us to support more girls into employment, education and training and develop skills in community action, capacity building and coaching. Our programme will also connect girls from different communities across London, to help build positive and inspiring relationships. This safe space will allow them to share with their peers and to receive support from our team, providing a sense of community. There will be a wide range of new skills to learn from the sessions ranging from budgeting and project planning to public speaking.

We want girls to feel empowered to change their lives for the better. That is why there is a strong focus on Community Action and supporting our girls to become change-makers. Girls need to be given the space and opportunity to take the lead, and this programme will provide that. In creating a community project or taking social action our girls will tackle the issues that matter most to them. The skills gained from taking part in this programme will open up opportunities for education and employment and build confidence and transferable skills that will allow our girls to thrive.

Powered By Girls will be launched in April and we are looking for girls to take part. We will be sharing more information on this shortly, so please sign up to our Newsletter and follow us on our socials to get the latest updates!

Visit our contact us page to find out more about how you can get involved or follow us on our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pages.

" I am thrilled to be able to launch this new programme and to work to support and empower girls across London. We know that girls experience unique and serious challenges and that these have been exasperated by the current crisis. We hope that this programme will provide girls with a much needed source of inspiration and ultimately encourage them to make opportunities for themselves. A huge thank you to the National Lottery Community Fund for supporting our work' - Misha, Girls Rise Up Director
