OPINION PIECE: Take accountability!
So many of us want something different.
So many of us want a change, something fresh and something exciting. But we don’t often get that. Why? Because many of us are trying to be something that we are not. We spend time trying to imitate someone else, that we start to lose sight of who we really are and what we are called to do.
Are you one of few people who constantly questions their identity? Do you know who you are? Do you think you are becoming the person you want to be in the future? If the answer is no, don’t beat yourselves up about it. Self-discovery is a journey, not a marathon. It is not necessarily a bad thing that you feel clueless, but it can be challenging when you don’t give yourself enough room for personal growth and discovery when you are looking at everything and everyone else but yourself.
It can be hard and a little pointless if you let other people dictate how you should live your life and tell you who you are. If the answer is no, why is that the case? Why don’t you think you are becoming the person you want to be? Is it fear? Imposter syndrome? Living off other people’s opinions and thoughts of you? Trauma? Drama? Comparison? What is it? Take time to reflect and have an honest conversation with yourself. You may discover a sense of peace when you take time to figure out the answer. It may even be a painful reality you are faced with. But that is okay. Life happens. Things happen and it isn’t always beautiful. It is nothing to be ashamed of. And even if you don’t find an answer, there are many ways you could do that, such as talking to a trusted person or finding the right people to guide you and help you on that journey.
In today’s generation and society, many people are heavily focused on the ‘fast life’. We are known as the ‘microwave generation’. We want things already made, so that we don’t have to wait too long for it to be fully done. Some of us don’t want to work hard or start from scratch. Some of us are not the original. We are a copy, a duplicate and a remodel. Many of the young people want to be ‘influencers’ but haven’t asked yourself, what kind of influencer do you want to be? Do you want to blend in or stand out from the crowd? This is when I start talking about sparking that change and being yourself. But before that can even occur, it starts from taking accountability, accepting and growing from your mistakes and learning the kind of person you are and working towards who you want to be in the future. It also starts from coming out of your comfort zone and dissolving the negative lies that people and even what you said about yourself and affirming positive things that are true and bring life into your spirit.
Sparking that change comes from being different. From standing out from the crowd. From being you. Don’t follow the crowd. Be a leader. It begins when you have an end goal in mind, and you start working towards it. Change starts from within, and if you want something to change, it can only start from one thing and from one person… YOU! So just do you!
