A GIRL-LED MOVEMENT TO END THE SEXUALISATION OF GIRLS

WHAT'S THE ISSUE?

gru_headshot (002).jpg

Girls should be given the same freedom as boys to develop without fear, without the constant need to prove themselves as ‘not asking for it’. Girls should be able to grow to love their bodies for what they are, and not want to contort their bodies to society’s fluctuating definition of desirable.

Sexualisation from strangers on the street through catcalling and harassment, as well as being compared based on attractiveness to my friends all throughout my school years have contributed to current intimacy issues within my relationships

I think the worst bit is is how it effects how women dress and choose to present themselves in different spaces at different day times. Choosing to wear the ‘appropriate’ thing in order to feel safer and less likely to be harassed

A GIRL-LED MOVEMENT

#NotForYourPleasure is a girl led movement that aims to provide a space for girls to share their experiences of sexual objectification and receive peer support. We know the power that stories can have for creating change and also for creating empowering communities of shared experience.

Being sexualised from a young age can result in issues with body image, self esteem and mental health. The normalisation of sexualising girls poses a risk to girl's safety and inhibits a girls life trajectory -  in way of limiting their career and education choices.

The link between being treated as sexual objects and how this impacts girls mental health and wellbeing, is one that needs further research and exposure - #NotForYourPleasure aims to do just that.

Share you story and help us shine a spotlight on this issue and to start a conversation. Together we can combat the harm that sexualisation has on girls and create real change at a societal level.

SHARE YOUR STORY WITH US

We will use these stories across our channels to highlight the need for our campaign. We hope that the stories from our community will help to us to raise awareness on the issues and ultimately help us to challenge those perpetuating the sexualisation of girls.

Thank you for sharing. Please see below for information on organisations that can help or provide support
